2026 Utility Rate Changes

The City of Asotin is hereby providing notice of rate changes to utility charges.

Over the past 6 years, the city has been able to reduce rates and avoid increases to help our residents through the pandemic and national economic uncertainty.  While keeping rates reasonable, our infrastructure costs continued to rise.  We are now facing required updates to our systems in the upcoming years.  These will require external funding sources such as grants and loans.

Our agreements on these loans and grants require the city’s utility rates to align with the required repayments.   The council worked diligently to ensure any rate increases were fair throughout the community, ensuring residents are able to adjust to these changes.

Starting on the bill you will receive in February the base rates of water will increase by $7.50 per month and sewer by $2.50.  While any rate increases are never wanted by customers, this increase is still significantly less than what would have been seen over the last 6 years without the dedicated work of your council and city employees to reduce expenses and put this necessary increase off as long as possible.

Under state law, water and sewer revenue can only be spent on those items.  The city cannot use utility funds for any other purpose, such as parks, streets or police.  The additional money is 100% dedicated for the water and sewer systems.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue to navigate the best path to ensure our community has safe and reliable drinking water and wastewater systems while complying with all the state and federal regulations.

Dwayne Paris – Mayor

The City of Asotin will accept no more than $2.00 in coinage for payment of utilities, fines, fees and other charges.
